Revelations November 11, 2010
Recently one of the largest releases of abuse documents ever ordered by a judge occurred in the Diocese of San Diego, after years of stalling by Bishop Brom. Although the diocese has destroyed documents and is still withholding thousands of pages, the San Diego files tell us much about the abuse and the cover-up there. They also up the ante for Cardinal Mahony, who has fiercely resisted the publication of documents in the Los Angeles cases, even after agreeing to their release as part of the 2007 LA settlement.

Bishop Lori in the Diocese of Bridgeport took a similar battle all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, trying to protect his predecessor, Cardinal Egan. The Bridgeport documents were finally released in December 2009. This weekend, Voice of the Faithful in the Diocese of Bridgeport is offering a dramatic presentation of the Bridgeport files:
Bless Me Father for I Have Sinned

Priestly Sexual Abuse in the Diocese of BridgeportA Dramatic Presentation of Court Documents Saturday, November 13, 2010, at 1:00 p.m.Norwalk Concert Hall125 East AvenueNorwalk, Connecticut

After the dramatic reading, a panel including David Clohessy of SNAP and Terry McKiernan of BishopAccountability.org will discuss the Bridgeport documents.
Bridgeport VOTF does a lot of important work, and they’ve dedicated much time and effort to understanding the Bridgeport documents and presenting them to the public. If you live in New York or New England, please consider coming to this performance. If you live elsewhere, why not stage a similar presentation in your area? The documents revealed in the Catholic abuse crisis offer a unique opportunity to understand the inner workings of the Catholic church.
Here are those links again.
I hope you'll explore the San Diego and Bridgeport documents and see what VOTF Bridgeport is planning:
