A representative group of Karnataka Major Superiors came together on a two day Conference on “Praxis, Research Study” programme, searching for an effective way of transforming the governance in religious congregation.

Inaugurating the first of the Regional Initiatives in Bangalore for a selected group of 26 Leaders of religious congregations Bro. Peter Lemos, Vice President of Karntaka Region said that Karnataka has the distinction of initiating the first of the series of Consultations being organized.

Bro. Mani Mekkunnel, the National Secretary of CRI, said “taking on to Good Governance is the greatest thing that can happen to the religious in the country.”

Fr. John Peter, programme Director of National CRI, presented the frame work of a Charter on Good Governance and requested the participants to make their valuable contribution.

One of the participants said that “I have been looking forward to such a opportunity and I a happy to be part of this process from the beginning.”

Sr. Bernardine who has been the Mother General of the society in Rome for 12 years felt that a paradigm change in governance of religious congregations has to take place to cope with the changes taking place in the society.

The Conference which was held in Vidyadeep College, Bangalore, considered the core issues of Good Governance and initiated a process of learning from praxis. The rich experiences of the participants as well the enthusiasm of younger leaders were the resources for indepth consideration of practical issues.

“Today’s society is driven by leaders and we need to target getting good leaders to make things happen fast” said Sr. Ancy in a futuristic reflection.

The study and reflection on Good Governance is to be carried out in all the Regions of the Country, which will be a resource for the formulation of a Charter on Good Governance in Religious Congregation.
