How to stay Catholic after being spiritually abused in the Church en Maciel Dellgolado

How to stay Catholic after being spiritually abused in the Church.

Why is St. Rita your patroness and what is the purpose of this site?

St. Rita is our patroness because she is the patron saint of victims of
abuse. Our purpose is to help those adversely affected by cults in the
Catholic Church.
Many who were in a religious order or a "new movement" in the Catholic Church
and were psychologically abused in that order leave the order feeling hopeless.
Some may even lose their Catholic Faith because neither the order nor Church
authorities assist them in their needs or correct the abuses in the order. Many
Catholics ostracize them and consider them "enemies of the Church" simply
because they speak of the abuse going on in the group. However, even Canon
Lawyers and orthodox Catholic publications are admitting that the Catholic
Church has a problem with approved groups, even orthodox ones, that function as
cults. It comes down to the realization that "what defines a cult is behavior
and not belief". The Church's approval of a group or religious order is not an
infallible action. The Church authorities may make a mistake in approving a
group or may even suppress a group that is already approved. We would like to
help those who have been adversely affected by an approved Catholic group
recover from that experience and keep their Catholic faith. May the intercession
of Saint Rita and the helpful information on this site give victims of "new
groups" in the Church hope!

February 5th, 2009 10:52- Mexico City A translation of the following article originally writen in Spanish.

The daughter of Flora Barragan de Garza, main benefactor of the Legionaries of Christs speaks about how Fr. Maciel was able to get 50 million dollars from her mother.

Flora Garza Barragán, daughter of Flora Barrgán, first benefactor of the Legion of Christ, in a radio news interview with Carmen Aristegui spoke of how the founder of the Legionaries of Christ took control of the fortune of her mother.

This began, she commented, when her father passed away and left her mother an immense fortune, making her one of the richest women in Mexico. Of this fortune, she intended to give 10 million dollars for the construction of a hospital dedicated to the treatment of tuberculosis.

The 10 million, instead of being given to build the hospital, built the “Cumbres Institute”, the first headquarters of the Congregation, where, later on, acts of sexual abuse of minors would take place. Finally, she gave more than 50 million dollars to the order. She also stated how during many years, he kept her mother busy to keep her away from any man or person that would discourage her from involvement with the order.

She described him as a cunning man able to captivate her mother and other people from wealthy families in Monterrey and turn them into Catholic fanatics. Some other people he was in contact with were Maria Lusia Noriega, Roberto Garza Sada, Guillermo Zambran, and the Zambrano Leon family, among others. She also mentioned how Fr. Marcial Maciel spent many days in the house of her mother, usually accompanied by two seminarians, and how he would take pills, which we now know were “Dolatina”, which he was addicted to, and which he also gave to her mother.

With bitterness she spoke of how, during the last 12 years of the life of Flora Barragán, Fr. Maciel practically forgot about her because she had already been drained of donations for the Legion.

Her mother continuously tried to communicate with him, but Marcial Maciel refused to respond. The situation continued this way until the end of her life. Maciel was never seen again, nor did he even answer her telephone calls.
