Public hearing into sporting clubs and institutions

The Royal Commission will hold a public hearing in Sydney commencing on Monday 4 April 2016 at 10.00am AEST.

The scope and purpose of the public hearing is to inquire into:
  1. The experiences of men and women who were sexually abused as children in sporting clubs;
  2. The response of Tennis Australia, Tennis NSW and the New South Wales Institute of Sport to allegations of child sexual abuse by a tennis coach;
  3. The response of Football NSW to allegations of child sexual abuse by a soccer coach;
  4. The systems, policies, practices and procedures in relation to child protection and for receiving, investigating and responding to allegations of child sexual abuse promoted and implemented by:
    1. Australian Olympic Committee
    2. Australian Paralympic Committee
    3. Australian Sports Commission
    4. New South Wales Institute of Sport
    5. Netball Australia
    6. Little Athletics Australia
    7. Surf Life Saving Australia
    8. Football Federation Australia
    9. Football NSW
    10. Tennis Australia
    11. Tennis NSW
    12. Cricket Australia
    13. Queensland Cricket
    14. A local Queensland cricket club
  5. Other related matters.
Any person or institution who believes that they have a direct and substantial interest in the scope and purpose of the public hearing is invited to lodge a written application for leave to appear at the public hearing by Thursday 24 March 2016.
